Bono Regional Health Directorate: UNICEF Constructs GHc320K Cold Room
Bono Regional Health Directorate: UNICEF has constructed a walk-in cold room, costing GH¢320,000, in
the Bono Region to store and preserve vaccines.
The facility, which includes two large cold room refrigerators, has been installed at the Disease Control Unit of the Regional Directorate of Health in Sunyani.
Dr. Kofi Amo-Kodieh, the Bono Regional Director of Health, stated that the region now has the capacity to store a greater quantity of vaccines and supply them to parts of the region and the West Africa Sub-Sahara region.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Dr. Amo-Kodieh expressed gratitude towards UNICEF and highlighted the ability to store and preserve vaccines for distribution to neighboring countries such as Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast.
As Ghana moves forward with its own vaccine development and production, the Regional Director expressed optimism that the Bono Region would play a crucial role in distributing those vaccines in the future.
Dr. Amo-Kodieh also expressed concern about Ghanaians’ lack of maintenance culture and assured that the directorate has implemented plans to ensure regular maintenance of the facility.
