Brilliants Ghanaian SHS Students Win Award: Seven Ghanaian Senior High School (SHS) students were recognised for their achievements in the just concluded Altitude Model United Nations Conference, 2023 in New York, USA.
Two of the seven winners earned the Secretary General’s Award, while the other five won the Best Improvement Award at the conference.
The Secretary General’s Prize was presented to Robert C. Arthur of Adisadel College and Selorm K. Kumodor of Presbyterian Boys, Legon (Presec), both delegates from China.
Williet Kofie, a Chinese delegate from Wesley Girls; Obaapa Nyamekye and Lois Ashong Mettle, both Iranian delegates from Christian High; Noella Ayesu, a Croatian delegate from Achimota Senior High; and Nana Ama Yeboah, a Croatian delegate from Legacy Girls Senior High all won the Best Improvement Award at the conference.
These seven participants were among 29 Ghanaian students that took part in the Altitude Model United Nations Conference 2023.

Brilliants Ghanaian SHS Students Win Award: In accordance with UN norms, they were given nations to represent at the conference and debated different themes during committee meetings.
The delegates were present on the UN General Assembly’s Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) committees.

Brilliants Ghanaian SHS Students Win Award: This allowed individuals to contribute their thoughts and solutions to concerns such as food hunger, climate change, and the energy crisis; digital safety in the Metaverse; and the social, humanitarian, and cultural ramifications of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, among other critical topics.
Selorm K. Kumodor, a PRESEC delegate, stated in an interview that “meeting with other delegates from across the world has been interesting and instructive, and dealing with diplomats and high-profile persons has been a tremendous motivation.”
The youngsters were a part of the delegation from Life-Link Friendship Schools, who established Ghana’s first model UN conferences.
One of the numerous worldwide Model UN conferences in which Life-Link Friendship Schools has actively participated over the past 20 years is the 2023 Altitude Model United Nations Conference.
Ernest Gyimah-Danquah, the executive director of Life-Link Friendship Schools, spoke about the awards and said that this experience was a part of the effort to introduce young Ghanaian students to diplomacy on the level of the United Nations and to help them develop their public speaking and debate skills while networking with other students from various backgrounds in the USA.
The students came from a variety of senior high schools, including Presbyterian Boys Senior High, Achimota High, Mfansipim High, Wesley Girls High, Adisadel College, Christian High, St. Augustine’s High, Aggrey Memorial High, Legacy Girls College, St Peter’s, St. Rose’s, and Accra Academy Senior High School.
As a part of their excursions, participants had the chance to visit the UN headquarters, the Ghana High Commission in New York, Rockefeller Center, the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square in New York City.
