Delays in SHS placement are a result of the CSSPS investigation- NAGRAT

Delays in SHS placement are a result of the CSSPS investigation: The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, has stated that the SHS placement delay is due to an ongoing inquiry after Ghana Education Service’s pledge that the school placement will be released immediately.

Mr. Carbonu claims that the delay in computer school placement is a result of an ongoing investigation into the current controversy involving the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The NAGRAT member indicated they could be an overhaul of the entire computerised school placement system to prevent the corrupt activities that allegedly compromised the second cycle school placement in the 2022.

“There is an investigation on a report about the placement in what 2022, and it has really shaken the foundations of certain people in authority, and they would want to put in measures to ensure that we don’t revert to that same thing.

Placement in school, why should somebody pay GH₵10,000 or GH₵20,000 to get your daughter to Wesley Girls, I am sure some of these are the things being streamlined hence the delay in placements,” the NAGRAT president stated.

As part of efforts to ensure a smooth and a free and fair placement of students who sat for 2022 BECE, Mr. Carbonu suggested that the Ghana Education Service (GES) should take complete charge of the placement system.

“Placement to school should be within the ambit of the GES not the Ministry of Education. There is a certain secretariat and I wonder the relevance or importance of that secretariat, the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Secretariat.

I wonder why we still have that secretariat because they are not teachers, they are political appointees and they are running the Free SHS but I don’t know what they do and I have a difficulty in why they are found operating in every sphere of education,” he said.
