IGP removal: It’s not my voice – Bugri Naabu denied being part of the plot

Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted any involvement in the secretive plan to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Approximately a week ago, an audio recording surfaced, allegedly capturing a conversation between a high-ranking police officer and individuals believed to have affiliations with the NPP.

The discussion centered around replacing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as the head of the police service.

During an interview with Kumasi-based Oyereba FM, Bugri Naabu denied being present at the meeting where the IGP’s removal was discussed.

When asked whether his staff were the ones who recorded the audio, he expressed doubt and stated that there were no recordings at his office, although his phone had the capability to record.

He also denied being the person who leaked the audio and highlighted that even his private phone conversations were inadvertently captured in the tape, which wouldn’t have happened if he were the one recording it intentionally.

Bugri Naabu visited the radio station to inquire about the whereabouts of his receptionist and personal aide, who he claimed were detained by the police in connection with the leaked audio about the IGP’s removal.

When questioned about why he plotted against the IGP, he refuted any involvement and pointed out that he was not responsible for appointing the IGP or in a position to discuss his removal.

According to Bugri Naabu, the individuals in the audio were merely expressing concerns about certain issues within the party because of his senior status in the NPP.

In response to claims that he recorded the audio because he was considered “IGP’s boy,” he strongly objected and emphasized that he had no such relationship with the IGP, asserting that the IGP could call him “Nana” (grandfather), not his boy.
