NDC Primaries: Prior to the elections in 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
Some incumbent Members of Parliament who were up for reelection to represent their party and constituents in the general elections of 2024 lost the battle.
A.B.A Fuseini, the MP for Sagnarigu, was one of the incumbents who was defeated. Attah Issah, a recent candidate, defeated him with 801 votes to A.B.A. Fuseini’s 330.
Wisdom Kobena Woyome, a South Tongu MP, also lost to Maxwell Kwame Lukutor. Mr. Woyome obtained 562 votes, while Mr. Lukutor garnered 597.
Sebastian Fred Deh defeated Dela Sowah, MP for Kpando, by 281 votes. Mr. Deh garnered 332 votes to win the election.
Dr. Kwabena Donkor, a Pru East MP, also lost the race. With 474 votes, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam defeated the current MP.
Augustine Tawiah, the incumbent MP in Bia West, was defeated by Mustapha Amadu Tanko. With 935 votes, Mr. Tanko defeated Mr. Tawiah, who got 452 votes.
Additionally failing to represent the party in the 2024 elections was Edward Bawa, MP for Bongo. Charles Bawaduah defeated him by 509 votes. 535 votes were cast for Mr. Bawaduah.
Additionally, Hajia Nasira Afrah, a novice, defeated Dr. Alex Adomako Mensah, the incumbent MP for Sekyere Afram Plains.
Wisdom Gidisu, the incumbent MP in Krachie East, was defeated by 257 votes. Nelson Kofi Djabab, the leading candidate, got 441 votes to win.
Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, the MP for Navrongo, was unsuccessful in his effort to run again in 2024. Simon Akibange Aworigo won with 475 votes, defeating him with 447 votes.
Angela Alorwu-Tay, the MP for Afadzato South, also failed in her attempt to remain a candidate.
She received 225 votes, falling short of her opponent Frank Afriyie’s 631 votes for victory.
