NSS Increases Service Personnel Allowance Amidst Economic Hardship

Service Personnel Allowance: The National Service Scheme has achieved a significant milestone by successfully obtaining government approval for an increase in the monthly allowances for its dedicated service personnel.

After engaging in constructive discussions with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ministry of Finance, the Management of the National Service Scheme secured the green light for an upward adjustment of the National Service Personnel’s monthly allowances.

This positive change is scheduled to be implemented starting from January 2023, bringing tangible benefits to the young individuals contributing to the nation’s growth and development.

The government’s support for this decision was conveyed through a formal letter dated 18th July 2023, where the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare (MP), expressed approval of the proposed allowance increase.

How much will be paid

This decision reflects the government’s commitment to acknowledging and appreciating the invaluable efforts and contributions of the National Service Personnel.

With the approved adjustment in place, the monthly allowance will significantly rise from GHe559.04 to GHc715.57.

This considerable increase will undoubtedly provide much-needed financial relief and recognition to the dedicated individuals playing a crucial role in the country’s progress.

The success in obtaining approval for the upward adjustment was the result of collaborative efforts involving the National Service Scheme, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.

Their collective discussions and negotiations exemplify the power of unity and effective dialogue in bringing about positive changes for the betterment of the young workforce and the nation as a whole.

Back dated date

In light of the approval, the Deputy Minister for Finance directed The Controller and Accountant-General to promptly implement the new allowance levels, ensuring that all National Service Personnel in active service receive arrears reflecting the difference in the upward adjustment from January 2023 onwards.

The Management of the National Service Scheme expresses gratitude to the government, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance for their understanding and support in achieving this commendable decision.

It also extends appreciation to all National Service Personnel for their unwavering commitment and dedication.

While the administrative processes for disbursing the arrears are underway, the Management kindly requests the National Service Personnel to exercise patience.

Assurances are given that necessary measures are being taken to ensure that all arrears are duly paid.

This achievement marks a significant step forward for the National Service Scheme and reinforces the government’s commitment to nurturing and empowering the young workforce as they continue their essential role in the nation-building process.

Both the Management and the National Service Personnel can now look forward to a brighter and more rewarding service experience as they collectively contribute to the country’s progress and prosperity.
