Plotting ouster of IGP: 7 member special committee to probe leaked tape plotting ouster of IGP

Plotting ouster of IGP: A proposed Special Committee, consisting of seven members, has been suggested to investigate the leaked audio recording that discussed a secret plan to remove the Inspector General of Police.

The Committee would include three members from both the Majority and Minority caucuses of Parliament, as well as a technical expert.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, put forward this proposal and expects the committee members to be named within a week, as reported by JoyNews Parliamentary Correspondent Kwaku Asante.

According to reports, the controversial audio recording emerged from a conversation between a high-ranking police officer and individuals believed to be connected to the ruling New Patriotic Party.

The content of the recording implies that an unidentified police officer involved in influence-peddling was seeking to replace the current Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, with someone more sympathetic to the ruling party’s agenda.

The motive behind this plot, as revealed in the conversation, was to secure police support for manipulating the 2024 elections in favor of the ruling NPP.

The Minority MPs have strongly protested against the alleged conspiracy and have called for a thorough investigation to identify and hold accountable those involved in the illicit discussion.

They advocate for a forensic examination of the leaked tape.

On the other hand, MPs from the Majority side have expressed doubts about the authenticity of the recording and have denied any involvement or intention to manipulate elections, asserting that the NPP will win the 2024 polls fairly and without any malpractice.
