Stop selling free items to first year SHS students: The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) following complaints of an unapproved prospectus issued by some heads of second cycle institutions to first year students, GES says the matter will be dealt with immediately as it begins probing.
In a social media sighted by our editorial team, GES said It has come to the attention of some Heads of public schools are issuing an unapproved prospectus and also selling some of the items on the prospectus to the first-year students.
The management of the Education Service also said Some Heads of public Senior High/Technical Schools (SHS/TVET) are also allegedly selling free items that are supplied by the government to the 2023 Free Senior High School students.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service takes strong exception to this practice and wishes to state unequivocally that the practice is prohibited and must cease with immediate effect,” the GES said in the social media communique.

GES has therefore cautioned Heads of various public second-cycle schools to stick to the approved harmonized prospectus for students. Any Head caught demanding any item(s) aside from the approved ones it said will be severely sanctioned.

“Parents/Guardians should be allowed to buy the approved items on the prospectus from the open market not in the schools to avoid any conflict of interest on the part of the school authorities,” the Ghana Education Service (GES) said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng says his outfit has tasked the Ghana Education Service to develop a basic prospectus for first-year students to be enrolled in Senior High/Technical Schools.
Speaking in an interview, he said the move forms part of the Education Ministry’s effort to lessen the burden on parents to achieve the ultimate goal of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
“The Minister for Education, Dr. Adutwum has tasked the Ghana Education Service to develop a comprehensive or basic prospectus for first-year Senior High/Technical School students to go to school this February,” Kwarteng said.
