In this article, we are going to give you all you need to know about uhas programmes and entry requirements.
General Entry Requirements for Undergraduate
Below are the requirements for both undergraduate and graduate programmes:
A level applicants
- Candidates must possess the General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level in five (5) topics, including English and Mathematics, as well as the Advanced Level G.C.E.s in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
SSCE/WASSCE applicants
- Credit passes in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies (to enter all four core courses when applying), as well as three electives related to the programme of choice, are required (A1-C6 / A-D).
- Applicants should note that they are expected to have at least C6/D in Social Studies, even though it is NOT included in the calculation of aggregates.
Other educational certificates
- American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations.
IGCSE/IB applicants
- IGCSE/IB – Applicants must have a minimum of three Higher Level (HL-A to C)/”A” Level (A to d)/IB2 (A-C) marks in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Mathematics, as well as marks A*/A-C in English, Mathematics, and Biology at the Standard (SL/”O” Level).
International applicants
- Foreign and Ghanaians with foreign Educational Credentials which are equivalent to those listed in above may apply to all Programmes.
NB: The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) must authenticate and accredit foreign certificates.
If their high school diplomas and certificates are not written in English, international students must have them translated into English.
THOSE WHO WILL TAKE THE WASSCE IN AUGUST/SEPTEMBER, 2023, AND FUTURE WASSCE APPLICANTS WHO HAVE THEIR EXAMINATION RESULTS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.

SCHOOL OF BASIC AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (UNDERGRADUATE)
- Bachelor of Science Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Entry Requirements:
i. All Core Subjects listed above in addition to Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Elective Mathematics
ii. General Agriculture/Animal Husbandry/Horticulture, Chemistry and Physics or Elective Mathematics
MASTER OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCESÂ
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.0 CGPA) from a recognized university in areas such as Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Health related degrees such as Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nutrition, Nursing.
• Applicants with third class may be considered for admission based on work experience and/or other qualifications.
• Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
• Applicants must pass an admission interview.
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.0 CGPA) from a recognized university in areas such as Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Health related degrees such as Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nutrition, Nursing.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)
The Ph.D programme is a four (4)-year full-time or six years’ part-time programme to be conducted in similar formats as the M.Phil full time (regular) and part-time (sandwich).
In the first academic year, candidates will undertake taught courses to enable them identify areas of research interest to conduct their research.
The timeline for the full time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the university.
For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations.
Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants must hold an MSc or M.Phil in Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
• Applicants must pass an admission interview
• Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
• Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words).
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (6 years)
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) (6 years)
- Bachelor of Physician Assistantship (Clinical)(4 years)
Entry Requirements:
All Core Subjects listed above in addition to Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Elective Mathematics.
SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES
- Bachelor of Diagnostic Imaging (Radiography)
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science
- Bachelor of Dietetics
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy
- Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
- Bachelor of Orthotics and Prosthetics
Entry Requirements:
i. All Core Subjects listed above in addition to any 3 of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics.
ii. Non-Science students who wish to apply for Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences must possess a grade of at least B2/B in Integrated Science.
iii. Applicants with Food and Nutrition, Management in Living, and General Knowledge in Arts can apply for a Bachelor of Dietetics.
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN MEDICAL IMAGING
The M.Phil programme has two pathways – the two (2) years Full-Time (regular) and the three years Part-Time (sandwich) options.
The timeline for the full time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the University (usually runs from (August to June).
For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations (June – August).
Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants must have at least two years work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialties.
• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.2 CGPA) in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic/therapy Radiography), Nuclear Medicine, or related Medical Imaging area from a recognized University.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees
• Applicants must pass an admission interview.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)
The Ph.D programme is a four (4)-year full-time or six years’ part-time programme to be conducted in similar formats as the MPhil full time (regular) and part-time (sandwich)].

UHAS COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL OF PHARMACY
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) – 6 years
Entry Requirements:
i. Candidates who apply must have General Certificate of Education (O-Level) in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to Chemistry, Physics and Biology at the A-Level
ii. WASSCE/ SSSCE applicants must have obtained three (3) credits in all the Core Subjects listed above in addition to (3) credits in the following Elective Subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Elective Mathematics.
iii. Mature applicants must have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dispensing Technology/related courses or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least three (3) years relevant working experience.
OR
Applicant must have attained the age of 25 at the time of submitting the application forms and must have five (5) credits at A-level, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
PROF. F. N BINKA SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) with the following options:
- Health Promotion
- Health Information
- Disease Control
- Nutrition
Entry Requirements:
i. Pure Science students who have all Core Subjects listed above in addition to any three (3) of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics are qualified to apply for all programmes.
ii. Nutrition: General Agriculture Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Management in Living, Food and Nutrition.
iii. Disease Control: Economics, Geography, General Agriculture Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture.
iv. Health Promotion: Government, Literature in English, Economics, History, French, Geography, General Agriculture Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art, Food and Nutrition.
v. Health Information: Elective Mathematics and Elective ICT, Economics, Geography, General Agriculture Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture.

MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (REGULAR & WEEKEND)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• A good first degree (minimum of second class lower) from a recognized accredited University.
• Relevant working experience in the health sector will be an advantage.
• Candidates with high Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) but limited post-qualification experience are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants are required to submit their Curriculum Vitae, pass an entrance interview.
• Applicants are required to submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen area of interest.
Duration of the Programme: The programme is a Full Time programme for a period of 12 months.
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN APPLIED EPIDEMIOLOGY (REGULAR)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• A good first degree (with a minimum of second-class lower division) in relevant health and health related field.
• All candidates should have a background or interest in Public Health.
• Applicants with three (3) years relevant working experience are preferred.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
• Applicants will be required to submit their Curriculum Vitae, pass an entrance examination and/or an interview, and required to submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen research area of interest.
• Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply.
Duration of the Programme: The programme will be full time for a period of 24 months.
DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD in PUBLIC HEALTH) – ONLY FULL-TIME (Ghanaian and International)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants must hold a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Master of Public Health, other Masters degrees in Medical/Health Sciences or equivalent degrees in a relevant field from a recognized institution/university.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/academic referees.
• A Statement of Purpose from the candidate (not more than 500 words).
• Applicants are required to submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen area of interest.
• Applicants are required to visit the university website to identify and make preliminary contacts with prospective thesis supervisors.
• Applicants who meet the minimum requirements upon submission of relevant documents, will be invited to undergo a rigorous academic interview.
• Minimum of 2yrs of demonstrated public health experience.
Duration of the Programme: The duration of this PhD programme is a minimum of three (3) years for Full-time study

UHAS COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Bachelor of Midwifery
- Bachelor of Public Health Nursing
Entry Requirements:
All Core Subjects listed in above in addition to any three (3) of the following:
Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Elective Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Government, History, Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Religious Studies, Literature-in-English, French, Ghanaian Language, General Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, General Knowledge in Arts and Management in Living.
UHAS COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicants must have practiced NursinglMidwifery for at least two years and must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
• Applicants must hold a good first degree in Nursing/Midwifery with a minimum second-class lower division.
• Submission of two academic and/or professional references is needed from applicants.
• Candidates must submit their resume and do well in an admissions interview..
• Each applicant must submit a 500-word proposal on the topic of their choice.
