UHAS Entry Requirements

SCHOOL OF BASIC AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES

i. MASTER OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES 

UHAS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.0 CGPA) from a recognized university in areas such as Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Health related degrees such as Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nutrition, and Nursing.

• Research proposal (not more than 700 words)

• Applicants with the third class may be considered for admission based on work experience and/or other qualifications.

• Applicants must pass an admission interview.

• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.

ii. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES

UHAS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.0 CGPA) from a recognized university in areas such as Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Health related degrees such as Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nutrition, and Nursing.

iii. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

The PhD programme is a four (4)-year full-time or six years part-time programme to be conducted in similar formats as the M. Phil full time (regular) and part-time (sandwich). In the first academic year, candidates will undertake taught courses to enable them to identify areas of research interest to conduct their research. The timeline for the full-time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the university.

For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations. Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants must hold an MSc or M. Phil in Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences.

• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.

• Applicants must pass an admission interview

• Research proposal (not more than 700 words)

• Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words).

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

i. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN MEDICAL IMAGING

The M. Phil programme has two pathways – the two (2) years Full-Time (regular) and the three years Part-Time (sandwich) options. The timeline for the full-time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the University (usually runs from (August to June). For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations (June – August). Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.

• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.2 CGPA) in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic/therapy Radiography), Nuclear Medicine or related Medical Imaging area from a recognized University.

• Applicants must have at least two years of work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialities.

• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees

• Applicants must pass an admission interview.

ii. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

The PhD programme is a four (4)-year full-time or six-year part-time programme to be conducted in similar formats as the MPhil full-time (regular) and part-time (sandwich)]. • Applicants must have at least three years of work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related specialities.

• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.

• Applicants must pass an admission interview

• Research proposal (not more than 700 words)

• Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words).

F. N. BINKA SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH – HOHOE CAMPUS

i. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN APPLIED EPIDEMIOLOGY (REGULAR)

UHAS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• A good first degree (with a minimum of second-class lower division) in relevant health and health-related field.

• Applicants with three (3) years of relevant working experience are preferred.

• All candidates should have a background or interest in Public Health.

• Applicants will be required to submit their Curriculum Vitae, pass an entrance examination and/or an interview, and required to submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen research area of interest.

• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.

• Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply.

Duration of the Programme: The programme will be full-time for a period of 24 months.

ii. MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (MPH) (OPTIONS: REGULAR & WEEKEND)

General

Health Promotion

Health Systems Management

Monitoring and Evaluation

Nutrition

Family and Reproductive Health

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• A good first degree (minimum of second class lower) from a recognized accredited University.

• Relevant working experience in the health sector will be an advantage.

• Candidates with a high Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) but limited post-qualification experience are encouraged to apply.

• Applicants are required to submit their Curriculum Vitae and pass an entrance interview.

• Applicants are required to submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen area of interest.

Duration of the Programme: The programme is a Full-Time programme for a period of 12 months.

iii. DOCTOR of PHILOSOPHY (PhD in PUBLIC HEALTH) – ONLY FULL-TIME (Ghanaian and International)

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants must hold a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Master of Public Health, or other Masters degrees in Medical/Health Sciences or equivalent degrees in a relevant field from a recognized institution/university.

• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.

• A Statement of Purpose from the candidate (not more than 500 words).

• Applicants are required to submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen area of interest.

• Applicants are required to visit the university website to identify and make preliminary contacts with prospective thesis supervisors.

• Applicants who meet the minimum requirements upon submission of relevant documents, will be invited to undergo a rigorous academic interview.

• Minimum of 2yrs of demonstrated public health experience.

Duration of the Programme: The duration of this PhD programme is a minimum of three (3) years for Full-time study

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) NURSING

UHAS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Applicants must hold a good first degree in Nursing/Midwifery with a minimum second-class lower division.

• Applicants must have practised Nursing or Midwifery for at least two years and must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

• Applicants will be required to submit two professional and/or academic references.

• Applicants will be required to submit their CVs and pass an admission interview.

• Applicants will be required to submit a 500-word proposal on their chosen area of interest.
